“From 2010 to 2021, the America the Beautiful Quarters Program® embodied our Nation’s history and beauty through exquisitely detailed quarter designs. Sweeping across the U.S. and our territories, this series of coins honored a selection of national parks, sites, landscapes, and monuments. Although the program has ended, you can still purchase some unique pieces for your own collection or introduce younger generations to the beauty of their homeland!” — U.S. Mint Website
The Ellis Island Quarter is the 39th Quarter to be released Celebrating the Beauty of the United States and its Territories. The design features an immigrant family approaching Ellis Island with a mixture of hope and uncertainty. The Hospital buildings are featured in the background. These quarters were minted in Philadelphia and Denver, respectively. The mint mark is located under the words “In God We Trust.”
The earliest paperweights appeared in Europe in the mid-1840s. Venetian glassmaker Pietro Bigaglia created and exhibited the first signed and dated weights at the Vienna Industrial Exposition in 1845. He, like other paperweight makers of the time, revived many ancient glassworking techniques to create his weights.
Save Ellis Island is the National Park Service partner for the restoration and preservation of the 29 unrestored buildings on Ellis Island’s south side. Save Ellis Island, its partners and members work together for the preservation of our nation’s historical and cultural heritage for this and future generations.
