Only in Ireland does Barbara Williams unlock the secrets of her late grandmother’s troubled personality—and her own anxiety. Their Kenny ancestors were farm laborers who had endured famines, violent uprisings, and forced eviction threats. Her Nana, Mary Sullivan, had never breathed a word of it. As Williams uncovers this painful past, she calls forth a love that heals her relationship with Nana fifty years after her death. Their intertwined stories, infused with Celtic spirituality and scientific insight, help unravel the mysteries that bind us all to our ancestors.
About Barbara Williams, PhD
Barbara Williams, PhD, was raised in a New Jersey neighborhood of Irish immigrants and their first-and second-generation descendants. She went on to have a long nursing career, primarily in psychiatry and then research. Both taught her the value of listening to patients’ stories and learning from them. Her articles, including research studies, have been published in several professional publications. Barbara, who lives on the Jersey Shore, is a member of Irish American Writers and Artists. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys Zumba dancing, reading psychological thrillers, and traveling with family and friends. I Hate You, Mary Sullivan is her first book.
All proceeds from the event go directly to supporting Save Ellis Island's mission to restore the 29 buildings in the Historic Hospital Complex.
