Immerse yourself in a unique experience as we explore the historic grounds of Ellis Island, where countless immigrants began their journey to a new life in America. As a healthcare professional, your perspective adds a unique dimension to this program, allowing you to connect with the rich history and stories that echo through the wards of the iconic Ellis Island hospital buildings.

The program is led by one of our veteran guides, Denise Giachetta-Ryan.  Denise is a former CUNY professor and Chair of the Department of Nursing.  She has also served as Assistant Vice President of Perioperative Services at two New York City hospitals.

During this program, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Gain insights into the medical history of Ellis Island and the crucial role played by nurses in the care of immigrants during the period of peak immigration.

  • Review key diseases and strategies used to ensure treatment and prevent contagion.

  • Tour the abandoned hospital buildings, witnessing the challenges faced by both patients and medical staff.

Your Ferry Ticket and Tour Ticket will be delivered to you via email a few days before the tour. Please bring both tickets on the day of the tour.
