ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Alex Gulino, born in New Jersey, is a photographer, cat mother, and traveler. She is also an Educator with Save Ellis Island. As a tour guide, she leads visitors on 90-minute excursions back in time on tours of the unrestored hospital buildings on Ellis Island’s south side. Ruins and abandonment are the focus of Alex’s photography, and finding and researching her next abandoned building is half the fun. She is always on the hunt for her next adventure.  Graduating college with honors, she studied photography, but eventually majored in English with a focus in theater arts. When Alex is not venturing off in some dilapidated building in the Northeast, she enjoys hiking and beating her friends at Uno.
